The top of the three-legged Weber line May 22, 2006 A photographer (Planet Earth) 58 out of 59 found this review helpful
After using a 22 1/2 inch Weber for 12-13 years and never paying any attention to taking care of it, I decided to get the new One-Touch with the bucket ash catcher--the "Gold" model. I also went with the blue color for an extra ten bucks.
There is nothing wrong with the Silver model but the addition of the enclosed bucket-type ash catcher is enough of an improvement to make the Gold model the top choice. As much as I loved my old Weber, I always had ashes scattered around on the patio after using it. That open pan-type ash catcher could be mighty messy, especially in the wind. It's not a concern with the One-Touch Gold.
It's easy to love a Weber grill. The design is a classic and it has proven itself for around 50 years. The grill is incredibly versatile. I only rarely use my big smoker since it's pretty simple to slow cook roasts, ribs and briskets on the Weber. And it's ideal for direct grilling of steaks, burgers, sausages and vegetables.
The one accessory you should get is the Weber chimney starter. Take it from me, you won't regret it at all. I've owned three or four other chimney starters and ended up going back to charcoal lighter because none of them ever worked well enough to reliably get a fire going. Well, the Weber works and it saves the expense of the lighter fluid and the time it takes to burn off the odor and taste.
If you're on a budget, the Silver model will work just as well as the Gold. If you're willing to spend extra for more convenience, the Gold One Touch is the way to go. The blue one looks nice too.
Simply the best! February 29, 2004 Phillip Besaw (Philadelphia, NY United States) 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I just ordered another one of theses grills. My 17 year old Weber kettle grill is ready to be "semi-retired".When was the last time YOU bought a charcoal grill and it lasted 17 years??My Weber grill has faithfully grilled a ton or more of food...no kidding!! I live in upstate NY and this grill sat out in all kinds of weather and lasted this long.As far as one of the other reviewers saying they could not get grill marks.....what were you using, charcoal or sterno???!!!I get grill marks on everything.Once you have your coals ready, put on the grid and let the coals get it really hot....then put your food on.You will have all the grill marks you want.I think I could get grill marks on a rock,if I wanted to.Buy this grill, you won't be disappointed!Enough said....I need to go tend to my semi-retired grill as I am going to grill some steaks on this kinda warm leap day Feb.Bon apetite!!
Weber One-Touch Gold is a Terrific Grill March 23, 2004 John Volkman (Seattle, WA) 26 out of 29 found this review helpful
We've been using Weber grills for years and the One-Touch Gold is the best yet. Cooks well, durable and easy to clean with the one touch/ash catcher combo. Cooks better than propane units and as easy, if not easier, to use. Start the charcoal with a chimmey unit (Weber makes a nice one for about $15)- No starter fluid or electric coils --, buy the charcoal (Kingsford) at warehouse clubs & home centers -- 48# for $10, and you're good to go. Weber has terrific customer service too -- phone and web.
Easy to use; well-designed April 11, 2000 Mr. Grumpy (Newport Beach, CA USA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Don't know much about grills or grilling, but this seems to be a quality product from a serious company. I appreciated all the recipes and detailed instructions that came along with the barbeque. The grill itself was simple to put together (not too many parts), but is admirably sturdy. The ash-catcher is a useful feature, especially if you keep your grill on a balcony or somewhere possibly windy; I'm glad I paid extra for it.
gotta love this grill December 6, 2001 rhonva (Bay Area, CA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a quality grill. It arrived in perfect condition, and we put it together with minimal effort. The parts are sturdy and well-fitting. Several thoughtful little details (such as the flip-up panel on the grill that allows you to add more charcoal) make things easy for BBQ beginners like my husband and I. The catch bin at the bottom is simple to use, prevents ash from blowing all over the yard, and you can make several dinners on the grill before needing to empty the bin.A chimney starter accessory is a must. No more lighter fluid, no more endless waiting for the coals to get hot enough to start cooking. It makes the difference between a barbequed meal being an hours-long production and a casual "Hey, why don't we barbeque that?" just before dinnertime.
